Highland Prep senior Marcel Pratt has made history by claiming the Division IV 300m Hurdles State Championship title! Pratt broke his own school record with an impressive personal best time of 38.06 seconds, solidifying his position as a top-tier athlete. This outstanding achievement has also earned him a spot at the Nike Nationals this June. Pratt will next compete in the Arizona All-State Meet on May 16-17, where he will undoubtedly be looking to continue his winning streak.
Pratt's athletic prowess is matched by his academic ambitions. Pratt will attend Howard University, where he will pursue a master's degree in architecture. Notably, Pratt will continue to pursue his passion for track in college, further solidifying his commitment to the sport. Pratt's journey in track and field showcases his hard work and dedication, having participated in the sport his four years at Highland Prep.
When asked about his passion for track, Pratt said, "I love the hurdles; the fact it not only takes physical discipline, but mental discipline. So, working hard physically and also honing that form to get over hurdles quickly." Pratt's success can be attributed to a strong support system, including his family, coaches, and teammates. "First and foremost, I couldn't have done it without God. My parents have pushed me and given me all the resources I need. Coaches have given me the ability to be available and get all the practice that I need, and my team has pushed me to keep going and to work hard," he acknowledged.
